Russell County Attorney Kevin Shearer was on Community Conversations on WJRS yesterday to discuss the work his office does.
Shearer said there are several programs and initiatives that are in the works right now that could be beneficial to individuals and families involved in the justice system.
Earlier this week on local news, we reported Russell County is one of seven counties to be selected as a new pilot site for a program aimed at diverting low-level offenders from jail into substance use disorder or mental health treatment.
That program also aims to provide education, vocational services and housing assistance.
