Lakers fall in opening round of state playoffs to Corbin

The Russell County Laker Football team saw its season come to an end last Friday night, falling on the road at 4A powerhouse Corbin.

The Redhounds defeated the Lakers by a score of 48-13 Friday night.

The Lakers finish the season with a final record of 5-6 in year 1 for Head Coach Steven French, a notable improvement from the past three seasons for the Lakers.

The five wins the Lakers totaled this season exceeds the win total from the last three seasons combined.

Russell County will remain in Class 4A for at least the next two seasons. The Lakers will remain in District 7 the next two seasons, which will go from a 5-team district to a 4-team district as Taylor County moves from District 7 to District 2.
