Law enforcement officers in neighboring Casey County are investigating a shooting that occurred over the weekend.
According to reports, a man was reported shot shortly after 2 p.m. local time Sunday on Shugars Hill Road off Highway 127.
When law enforcement arrived, they discovered a man identified as Henry Hall had been shot in the upper right leg by 68-year-old Gary R. Ross of Liberty.
Hall was transported to Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville by Casey County EMS for treatment.
According to law enforcement, the two had been involved in a verbal altercation, which then turned physical when Hall punched Ross in the head. Reports are the two separated, but Hall reportedly advanced toward Ross again, at which point Ross fired a shot from a handgun, striking Hall in the leg.
Ross was charged with assault first degree and lodged in the Casey County Jail.
