Russell County, Lake Cumberland area saw notable jumps in unemployment in August

Russell County, and the Lake Cumberland area as a whole, saw significant increases in unemployment in August.

Russell County’s unemployment rate last month came in at 6.2 percent, up from 4.8 percent in August 2023.

Russell County wasn’t the only county to see an increase in unemployment, as every county across the state saw an increase from the prior year. Each county in the Lake Cumberland area had an increase of more than one percent, aside from Cumberland County.

Cumberland County has the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 3.9 percent. Other surrounding counties include Casey at 5.2 percent, Pulaski County at 5.9 percent, and Adair, Clinton, and Wayne counties at 6.5 percent.

The statewide unemployment rate came in at 5.1 percent.
