5:48 P.M. — PERPETRATOR IS IN CUSTODY IN LOUISVILLE
Russell Countians, Kentuckians, and law enforcement officers across the state are mourning the death of Trooper Hayden Phillips, a Russell County native who was shot and killed during a traffic stop Monday on Interstate 65 in Warren County.
The search for the person responsible is ongoing, with Kentucky State Police and dozens of local and county law enforcement agencies across the state involved.
KSP Colonel Phillip Burnett Junior said the agency is grieving alongside Phillips’ family, loved ones and fellow troopers.
Phillips graduated from Russell County High School in 2016. Before joining state police, he served with the Russell Springs and Glasgow police departments. He was assigned to KSP Post 3 in Bowling Green, where he served as Unit 369.
