Deputy Josh Phipps is being remembered as someone who was always willing to serve the community, no matter the sacrifice.
Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston spoke to WJRS News and said Phipps was an exceptional deputy, someone he could always call on and was always willing to do what was needed to serve the community.
Polston recalled a particular emergency situation where Phipps was willing to sacrifice for others.
Polston said it’s a difficult time for everyone in the local law enforcement community. He asked for continued prayers for the sheriff’s office and local first responders, but most importantly, for the Phipps family. Polston told WJRS he’s still in a state of shock over the whole situation.
Polston did, however, share that when he was in his office yesterday morning, his Bible was open to a particular passage he said exemplified Deputy Phipps. He shared that passage with the other deputies and office staff.
Russell County Judge Executive Randy Marcum ordered flags to half-staff in the county through Friday in memory of Phipps. He spoke briefly to WJRS News and said Phipps had a reputation as a deputy who was fearless in his duty to serve.
