More controversy is brewing in neighboring Adair County, as multiple deputies reportedly had a meeting with Adair County Judge Executive Larry Bryant on Wednesday that turned contentious after Sheriff Josh Brockman had submitted his retirement letter earlier that morning.
According to the Adair County Community Voice, four deputies went to Bryant’s office to meet with him after learning of Brockman’s retirement and advocate for Bryant to select Chief Deputy Brandon Hitch as the next sheriff.
According to the newspaper, deputies say the meeting quickly turned contentious, as Bryant cursed at the deputies, blamed them for drug use in the county, blamed them for a stolen motorcycle that was never recovered, and said they should quit their jobs.
The newspaper also reported that one of the deputies said Bryant encouraged Deputy Josh Durbin to hit him.
Durbin reportedly is planning to take a job at another law enforcement agency.
Bryant reportedly plans to appoint Jailer Jamie Richards as the new sheriff and appoint Buddy Powell as the new jailer.
