A grand jury has cleared Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies of any wrongdoing in the case of an officer-involved shooting that took place back in January.
According to testimony from Kentucky State Police, 45-year-old Jeremy Bertram of Monticello opened the door as officers responded to his residence with a gun in his hand and pointed it at the two deputies responding.
After the deputies, identified as Jerry Coffey and Jerry Meadows, ordered Bertram to lower the gun, he refused and both officers shot him.
Bertram was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
The grand jury cleared the deputies, concluding that the use of force was justified.
