Russell County and the Lake Cumberland Area saw an increase in employment in January, according to data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
Russell County saw its unemployment rate rise 0.8 percent from the same time last year, with the unemployment rate being 6.2 percent compared to 5.4 percent in January 2023.
Russell County wasn’t the only county to see an increase. Each of the 10 counties in the Lake Cumberland Area saw an increase in unemployment, with increases ranging from 0.3 percent in Adair County to 1 percent in Pulaski County.
As a whole, only five counties in Kentucky didn’t see an increase in unemployment.
In the Lake Cumberland area, Russell County’s unemployment rate of 6.2 percent was the second-highest, with McCreary County coming in higher at 6.8 percent.
Wayne County was just behind Russell County at 6.1 percent and Clinton County came in at 6 percent.
