Owner Pushes Burning Jeep Outside Garage; Vehicle a Total Loss

A Jeep was destroyed by fire at a South Highway 76 residence Sunday evening.

The Eli Volunteer Fire Department responded to 6522 South Highway 76, where firefighters found a 2015 Jeep Wrangler owned by Keith Bowling of Russell Springs fully engulfed in flames.

According to Fire Chief Marty Kazsuk, Bowling told firefighters he was working on the Jeep inside his garage when the fire started and was able to push it outside. The vehicle was away from nearby structures but beneath power lines, prompting a request for South Kentucky RECC to respond.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. The Jeep was a total loss, while the garage’s overhead door sustained very minor heat damage.

The fire appeared to originate near the engine compartment firewall.

Seven Eli firefighters responded with three apparatus and were on scene for approximately 45 minutes.
