The Russell County Board of Education voted 4-1 to move forward with the proposed athletic complex by accepting bids for the project during a board meeting Monday evening.
The vote came after a lengthy discussion about cost-saving measures, including the removal of new tennis courts from the project, but the board approved the bids with board member Gerald Murray casting the lone no-vote.
Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford spoke to WJRS News about approving the bids for the complex.
