It was a night of celebration on the baseball diamond as the Russell County Lakers captured another 16th District Championship, the 5th in a row for the Laker Baseball program, with a 14-0 win over Clinton County in 5 innings.
It was a combination of hot hitting and strong pitching for the Lakers, as Nathan Lawson delivered a five-inning shutout on the mound, giving up just 3 hits and striking out 8 batters.
At the plate, Lawson finished 2-3 with 4 RBI, which came off a third-inning grand slam, his 12th homerun of the season.
Mayes Gosser, Issac Roy, and Nick Aaron each drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers and Trace Stringer finished with 1 RBI.
With the win, the Lakers will play at home in their first round matchup of the 4th Region Tournament, which will take place next week.
