The Russell Springs City Council gave the final stamp of approval for the interlocal homeless agreement at last week’s city council meeting.
The interlocal homeless agreement is an agreement between the City of Russell Springs, the City of Jamestown, and the fiscal court to each provide $1,500 into a fund that helps law enforcement deal with people they encounter that don’t have anywhere to go.
The fund provides a room for the person at a local motel and basic necessities, along with putting them in contact to resources that can help them with underlying issues.
The interlocal agreement was instituted last year and was considered an effective tool to help address homelessness in the community.
