With rising inflation, Governor Andy Beshear announced Wednesday that his office is taking a couple actions.
First, Beshear said he is signing an executive order that will stop the increase in vehicle property taxes. In Kentucky, used car values have risen nearly 40 percent over the last year, resulting in a significantly higher tax bill for many Kentuckians.
The freeze will last for two years.
Beshear also announced that he is proposing legislation that would temporarily lower the state sales tax by 1 percent.
According to the Governor’s Office, these measures are expected to save Kentucky families around $1.2 billion in savings for Kentucky families.
