The Russell County Board of Education is not proposing a change to the school tax rate.
The tax rate has remained unchanged since 2018, and Superintendent Michael Ford told the board during a special-called meeting on Monday that he proposed the board leave the tax rate unchanged again for 2021-2022.
The board unanimously approved the recommendation, however under state law, the board will hold a public hearing on Sept. 2 to hear public comments on the plan. A special-called meeting of the board will follow that hearing, where the board will vote on the school district tax rate.
The tax rate is currently set at 52.2 cents per $100 of assessed value on real estate, personal property, and motor vehicle, along with a 3 percent utility tax.
