Seven hundred Russell County voters cast ballots Thursday as early in-person voting got underway for the November General Election.
Russell County Clerk Patti Glover told WJRS NEWS late Thursday afternoon that was a “big turnout” for the first day.
Early voting for all Russell County precincts continues today, Friday, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. at South Kentucky RECC’s Community Room.
Glover says she hopes the strong turnout continues through Saturday and on Election Day.
Voters can also cast ballots Tuesday, November 3rd, from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. at their regular precinct locations across Russell County.
Glover says 381 absentee ballots were requested and mailed to voters. Those ballots must be returned by 6 p.m. Tuesday to be counted.
The Russell County Courthouse doors will remain open Tuesday evening, allowing voters to place absentee ballots in the ballot box just inside the front entrance. Glover says the box will be checked a final time at 6 p.m., and ballots deposited before that deadline will be counted.
The public is also invited to observe absentee ballot counting, which begins Tuesday morning at 10 in the former circuit courtroom on the courthouse’s second floor.
According to Glover, Russell County has 14,084 registered voters. Those registrations include 10,969 Republicans, 2,112 Democrats and 524 Independents.
Within the county, the City of Jamestown has 1,249 registered voters, while the City of Russell Springs has 1,904.
Glover says only one issue was reported among Thursday’s 700 voters, and that matter was quickly corrected.
