Russell County Hospital continues to post strong financial results while making progress on several major projects.
During Tuesday afternoon’s monthly meeting of the Russell County Hospital Board of Directors, CEO Scott Thompson reported the hospital closed its fiscal year on June 30 with a net balance of $8.4 million. Thompson said the hospital’s bottom line for the month of June alone was approximately $1.8 million.
Thompson also noted that about 82 percent of the hospital’s business is generated through its various outpatient services.
The hospital performed 500 CT scans in June, and Thompson expects that number to increase significantly once a second CT scanner is installed as part of the hospital’s ongoing expansion. He believes monthly scans could increase to between 750 and 800.
On the construction front, Thompson said the hospital’s expansion project is currently one month ahead of schedule, with completion still projected for November 2027.
The CEO also praised the addition of a full-time security officer, saying Deputy Dial has already responded to several serious incidents since beginning his duties at the hospital.
Thompson told the board the hospital, with assistance from the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, has applied for $6 million in federal Economic Development Authority grant funding, along with an additional $1.1 million in state grant funds.
He added that work on the hospital’s new Med Spa is nearing completion. Some staff members have already been hired, and existing hospital employees will also assist with operations as needed once the facility opens.
