Pulaski County Schools is welcoming a familiar face to its top leadership position.
Kent Mayfield is officially beginning his first year as Superintendent of Pulaski County Schools after spending the past 28 years serving the district in a variety of leadership roles.
Mayfield’s career in education has included time as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, educational supervisor, Director of School Safety, and most recently Assistant Superintendent.
Throughout his career, Mayfield has earned recognition for his focus on student achievement, operational excellence, and building strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the community. While serving as principal of Shopville Elementary, he guided the school to a Top 2 percent academic ranking in Kentucky and helped earn National Blue Ribbon School recognition.
He also played a key role in establishing the Pulaski County Schools Police Department, helping strengthen safety and security throughout the district.
Before entering education, Mayfield served as a police officer in Sulphur, Louisiana, and spent 25 years coaching high school baseball, mentoring generations of student-athletes.
As Superintendent, Mayfield says his priorities include putting students first, supporting school employees, maintaining strong fiscal stewardship, strengthening communication, and working alongside families and the community to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
