According to an update from the City of Liberty, crews are continuing to fuse and install pipeline that will carry water from the Green River to Lake Liberty, the reservoir that supplies drinking water to the City of Liberty and much of Casey County.
Water customers have been under conservation restrictions for more than a month after ongoing drought conditions caused water levels at Lake Liberty to drop to dangerously low levels.
City officials say each day of construction brings the project one step closer to pumping water into Lake Liberty, providing much-needed relief to the area’s water supply.
The City also thanked residents and businesses for their continued efforts to conserve water. Officials say water system output dropped to approximately 800,000 gallons earlier this week, reflecting the community’s commitment to reducing water usage during the emergency.
With construction continuing, city officials are also hopeful that forecasted rainfall later this week will provide additional relief.
