The Russell County Fiscal Court is moving forward with a grant that will help provide rubber-modified asphalt on Clifty Creek Road.
Russell County Judge-Executive Randy Marcum told WJRS News the state will pay half the cost of paving the road, and noted Russell County is fortunate to receive the grant for a second consecutive year.
Russell County used the material last summer to pave a portion of Crocus Road.
The rubber-modified asphalt program is operated through the state’s Division of Waste Management.
As part of the program, the county resurfaces a comparable road with conventional materials. This allows state officials to track the performance of the rubber-modified asphalt over time.
Nearly four million waste tires are collected in Kentucky each year. Officials say this program diverts waste tires from landfill while noting the rubber-modified asphalt extends pavement life and enhances durability.
