Russell County had a strong voter turnout for this week’s primary election.
5,705 voters cast a ballot in the primary election – a turnout of about 40.8 percent.
That was about 5.5 percent higher than the primary turnout four years ago, when turnout was 35.3 percent.
In 2018, voter turnout locally was at 40 percent.
Looking at turnout in neighboring counties, Casey County’s turnout was 43.75 percent and Adair County was at about 38.9 percent.
Cumberland County had one of the highest turnouts in the area at almost 48.8 percent. Clinton County was at 45.9 percent.
Wayne County’s turnout was 33.2 percent and Pulaski County had the lowest turnout among surrounding counties at about 30.3 percent.
Voter turnout statewide was just under 25.7 percent.
