Jamestown Fire Department urges caution when burning after responding to fire yesterday

The Jamestown Fire Department was called out to a grass/brush fire yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters were called out at around 2:30 yesterday to a controlled burn pile off Boat Dock Road near Lawless Lane yesterday. Wind and dry conditions led the fire to expand and was threatening a nearby structure.

Firefighters responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire, which caused slight damage to an outbuilding and was contained to less than an acre, according to fire officials.

8 members of the Jamestown Fire Department were on scene for about 30 minutes.

The Jamestown Fire Department urges residents to use extra caution when burning. While a burn ban is not in place, dry conditions along with wind can cause a fire to quickly burn out of control.
