Fiscal court approves false alarm ordinance

The Russell County Fiscal Court voted to approve an ordinance addressing false alarm calls at its meeting this morning.

The ordinance primarily deals with residences that have faulty alarm systems, which cause first responders to respond to the residence. In turn, this ties up emergency personnel who could be responding to actual emergency calls.

Judge-Executive Randy Marcum spoke to WJRS News about the ordinance following the fiscal court meeting.

The penalties include a $300 fine for the third or more false alarm call that originates from a single address within a year.

The ordinance received unanimous approval from the magistrates.
