Senior Night was a big night for the Lady Laker and Laker Basketball programs.
Russell County picked up a pair of thrilling wins Friday night over Adair County.
The Lady Lakers defeated the Lady Indians 54-52, with Russell County junior Carigann Carpenter coming up big again late. Carpenter scored a put-back off a missed shot with about 1 second left on the clock, securing the win for the Lady Lakers.
Russell County was led by 18 points from Addy Abrell and 11 from Aniyah Coffey. McKenna Ccamaque scored 9 points for the Lady Lakers and Rylen McGowan added 9 points for the Lady Lakers, including three 3-pointers.
The nightcap matchup between the Lakers and Indians saw the Lakers come back from a 9-point halftime deficit to defeat the Indians 70-65.
The Lakers knocked down 14 three-pointers in the victory. Dylan Stanelle led Russell County with 22 points on the night, including 4 made threes. Maddox Shearer scored 17 and knocked down three 3-pointers. Bryson Irvin scored 15 and made 4 threes, most of them in the second half.
The Lakers will be back at home tomorrow, hosting Danville. The Lady Lakers go on the road to South Laurel tomorrow.
