The Russell County Lady Lakers and Lakers were both victorious in a district doubleheader at home last night against Metcalfe County.
Trailing 47-46 in overtime, Russell County’s Carigann Carpenter hit a three-pointer near the top of the key with about 17 seconds remaining to give Russell County a 49-47 lead and the eventual victory.
It was a big night for Carpenter, who finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down a team-high 13 rebounds.
Aniyah Coffey led Russell County with 14 points in the win. Natalie Bartrug scored 9 points, while pulling down 7 rebounds and blocking 5 shots. Addy Abrell and McKenna Ccamaque each finished with 8 points. Abrell finished with a team-high 6 assists.
In the nightcap, the Lakers defeated the Hornets 84-73.
Maddox Shearer scored a game-high 26 points, including 11 in the first quarter alone. Dylan Stanelle added 22 points for the Lakers, and Max Davis scored 13. Noah McMillin scored 9, and Bryson Irvin and Mannix Bell finished with 6 points each.
The Lakers and Lady Lakers will be back in action again at home Friday night for another district doubleheader, as Monroe County comes to town.
