Nearly 600 units of blood donated in Russell County last year

Nearly 600 units of blood were donated through mobile blood drives in Russell County last year.

According to the Kentucky Blood Center, 593 units of blood were donated and according to officials with the blood center, those donations can impact more than 1,700 lives across the state.

Last year, 24 mobile blood drives were held in Russell County with 765 registered donors.

Russell County also had more than 125 first-time donors give blood at a mobile blood drive last year.

Of surrounding counties, only Pulaski County had more registered donors for mobile drives with 824.

Cumberland County had 310 registered donors, Adair County had 490, Casey County had 514, and Wayne County had 587.

In Russell and surrounding counties, nearly 2,800 units of blood were donated last year at mobile blood drives. KBC officials estimate around 8,100 people were impacted by those donations.
