The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public meeting in Somerset next week after recently discovering a case of Chronic Wasting Disease in a hunter-harvested deer in Pulaski County.
The meeting will take place from 5-7 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday at the Center for Rural Development. Doors will open at 4 p.m. CT.
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife staff will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.
This is the second detection of Chronic Wasting Disease in a wild deer in Kentucky. The first case was detected in a wild deer in Ballard County in western Kentucky in 2023.
Chronic Wasting Disease affects deer, elk and other species in the deer family.
There is no known cure or vaccine, and the disease is always fatal in infected animals.
The disease is not known to be transmissible to people, but the CDC advises not consuming meat from deer that test positive for the disease.
