A teacher at the Adair Youth Detention Center was sentenced to 14 years in prison last week after being found guilty in September of charges including sexual abuse and unlawful transaction with a minor.
28-year-old Elena Bardin appeared in Taylor Circuit Court last week, where the judge imposed the 14-year sentence that was recommended by the jury.
Bardin was arrested in April by Kentucky State Police following a routine search at the youth detention center. During that search, evidence was discovered that showed Bardin had subjected the juvenile to illegal sexual contact and provided him with sexually explicit images of herself.
Information in the letters also led prosecutors to believe Bardin was soliciting the juvenile to murder her husband. However, Bardin was acquitted of the solicitation to murder charge.
Bardin will be eligible for parole after serving 85 percent of the sentence, which would be approximately 12 years.
She remains lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
