Person airlifted after kayak capsizes near dam

Rescue crews responded Monday morning to a kayaker who capsized near Wolf Creek Dam.

Russell County Search and Rescue Commander Chris Money said the team was called out at around 9 a.m. Monday to assist the kayaker.

The individual was wearing a personal floatation device and was pulled from the water by a nearby boater.

Despite wearing a floatation device, the kayaker ingested a life-threatening amount of water and was in critical condition. The individual was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital.

Russell County Search and Rescue remained at the scene to recover the kayak and ensure the area was secure.
