Russell County Judge Executive Randy Marcum announced yesterday on WJRS the county has received a lease from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the planned Greasy Creek Park project.
Marcum said he’s been working on this project for over two years and said he’s excited the Corps finally granted the lease to the county for the project.
Plans for the project include a handicap-accessible fishing pier, kayaking, and walking and hiking trails.
The area was once a popular roadside park several years ago. Marcum said it will give Russell County residents an outdoor space to enjoy for free.
Before the lease can be officially accepted by the county, it will have to be approved by the fiscal court. The fiscal court is scheduled to meet this coming Monday at 10 a.m.
