Comparing 2024 local crime statistics to 2023

Wrapping up our series examining the data from the annual Crime in Kentucky Report, we’re examining how local crime statistics compared from 2023 to 2024.

In 2024, there were 3 reported cruelty to animals cases, compared to 0 the year prior.

Russell County saw an increase in sex offenses, from 4 in 2023 to 10 in 2024.

Russell County saw a decrease in burglary or breaking and entering cases, from 25 in 2023 to 15 in 2024.

Russell County also saw a decrease in theft cases, from 49 in 2023 to 38 in 2024.

Weapon law violations decreased locally, from 23 in 2023 to 11 in 2024.

The number of arrests for public intoxication of alcohol decreased from 108 in 2023 to 83 in 2024.

Overall, Russell County saw a decrease in total arrests in 2024 with 1,867 total arrests compared to 1,951 in 2023.
