Third Straight Month of Growth for Independent Voters

Secretary of State Michael Adams says Kentucky is continuing to see growth among voters registered under political affiliations outside the two major parties. For the third month in a row, that “other” category outpaced both Republican and Democratic registration combined.
As of the latest report, Republican registration stands at 1,582,699 voters, making up 47 percent of the electorate. That’s an increase of 1,026 voters. Democratic registration now accounts for 42 percent, with 1,391,172 voters—a decrease of 838.
Meanwhile, 361,168 Kentuckians are registered under other political affiliations, representing 11 percent of all voters. That group saw the largest growth this month, adding 1,352 voters, a 0.38 percent increase.
In Russell County, there are 10,763 registered Republicans, 2,110 registered Democrats, and 466 registered Independents as of May.
In May, 4,157 voters were removed from the rolls. That includes 3,173 who died, 440 who moved out of state, 402 convicted felons, 65 who voluntarily de-registered, 49 deemed mentally incompetent, and 28 duplicate registrations.
