At a special-called meeting of the Russell Springs City Council last week, the council heard the first reading of a new zoning ordinance placing restrictions on alcohol and drug treatment entities.
Under the new zoning ordinance, alcohol and drug treatment entities would not be permitted to locate in residential zones. The ordinance states only 2 alcohol and drug treatment entities would be permitted in the city limits at one time.
The ordinance also would require any alcohol and drug treatment entity to be located a minimum of 1,000 feet from any churches, daycares, schools, public parks, and public playgrounds.
Russell Springs Mayor Eddie Thomas was a guest on Community Conversation on WJRS yesterday and discussed the ordinance.
Thomas said the ordinance looks to address some concerns that have been presented to city officials.
The city council will hold its regular monthly meeting tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. where the ordinance could be brought up for a second reading and vote.
