The Russell County Fiscal Court is expected to begin work on starting a civics club aimed at teaching students about local government.
The county recently received a $7,000 grant through the Appalachian Regional Commission to launch a civics organization for students.
The project includes bringing in high school students as interns for various county offices and helping students engage in local government.
Judge Executive Randy Marcum told WJRS News the program highlights the importance of investing in the youth in the community.
The civics club will be a partnership with school officials and other community leaders.
