A Clinton County man was arrested in connection to a decades-old child sexual abuse investigation.
Kentucky State Police arrested 61-year-old James Shelton of Albany following the renewal of a cold case investigation that initially began in 1999. At the time, a KSP Trooper received a report alleging Shelton had sexually abused his juvenile daughter, but the case went cold due to a lack of evidence.
On June 17, 2025, new information came to light, prompting KSP Post 15 to reopen the investigation. As a result, Shelton was arrested and charged with 34 counts of Sexual Abuse 1st Degree – Victim Under 12, and 20 counts of Sodomy 1st Degree – Victim Under 12. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Shelton was lodged in the Clinton County Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Senior Trooper Brandon Poole.
