Resolution to name bill in memory of Deputy Phipps passes through legislature on final day

On the final day of the legislative session, the bill that would name Highway 127 in Russell County in memory of fallen deputy Joshua Phipps passed through the legislature.

House Joint Resolution 5 passed through the legislature unanimously. It was sponsored by Representative Josh Branscum.

The resolution would name the portion of Highway 127 in Russell County the “Deputy Sheriff Joshua Phipps Memorial Highway.”

The resolution also states that signs would be placed noting the new name within 30 days of it becoming effective.

The bill was delivered to the Governor, who has 10 days to either sign the bill, veto it, or take no action which would permit it to become law.

The bill includes naming of several roads and bridges throughout the state.
