Flooding causes school closures; high water in Liberty

Flooding in Russell and surrounding counties has resulted in schools being closed today.

In-person classes in Russell, Adair, Clinton, and Cumberland counties were cancelled today due to flooding.

In Russell County, today is not an NTI day and will not need to be made up on the school calendar.

Heavy rain has also caused notable flooding in Liberty. Water covered the bypass last night, and the road was closed as it became impassable.

There were reportedly five motorists rescued trying to drive through the water.

A flood watch remains in effect for the area until Sunday morning.
