Two people injured after falling off cliff

Two people were injured after falling off a cliff near the Low Gap area of Lake Cumberland yesterday morning.

Russell County Search and Rescue was called out just before 7:30 yesterday morning. When rescue crews arrived on scene, they discovered two individuals had fallen off a cliff face. One of the individuals had fallen about 150 feet, coming to rest against a tree. The other fell 200 or more feet and was in critical condition.

Rescue crews scaled the rock face to reach the victims, using a rope system to lower one of the individuals into a waiting boat. Crews were able to transport that individual to a nearby marina and EMS was able to transport them to a helipad to be flown out.

Rescue crews were able to assist the other person down to another waiting boat, where they were transported to the marina and treated by EMS for an ankle injury and facial trauma.
