The first round of the state’s medical cannabis lottery was held this week, but no local licenses were among those randomly selected.
The lottery included 10 random selections for businesses as processors, with the nearest being in Barren County, and 16 total cultivators. The nearest cultivator licenses selected were in Barren and Lincoln counties.
According to data provided to WJRS by the cabinet for health and family services, four cultivator applications were filed to be based in Jamestown and one processor application was filed to be in Russell Springs.
An announcement regarding the lottery for dispensary licenses is expected this week. That data shows 10 applications for dispensaries based in Jamestown and 29 in Russell Springs.
In total, more than 250 dispensary applications were filed within the Cumberland area, which includes 14 counties, according to the state’s medical cannabis office.
The area is reportedly set to receive four dispensary licenses.
