Lakers win big at LaRue, set to take on Corbin in playoffs

The Laker Football Team put a strong finishing touch on the regular season last Friday night, defeating LaRue County by a score of 52-14.

The win gave the Lakers a 5-5 mark in the regular season.

The game was never in doubt for Russell County, as the Lakers led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter by way of touchdown runs from Tanner Stringer and Owen Loy, and a pick-six by Adrian Eads.

The Lakers would push the lead to 35-0 headed into halftime and extended the lead to 52-0 in the second half before a couple late LaRue touchdowns late in the 4th quarter cut the deficit.

The Lakers qualified for the 4A playoffs, earning the 4-seed in District 7 after Taylor County defeated Green County Friday night. The Lakers will travel to Corbin High School this Friday night to take on the top seed in District 8, the Corbin Redhounds, who finished the regular season 9-1.

A parade to send-off the Lakers is scheduled for Thursday evening at 6. The team will leave from the high school at 6, travel to Jamestown, and go around the square before heading north to Russell Springs.
