Homicide investigation underway in Wayne County; KSP searching for person of interest

Update from Kentucky State Police (1 p.m. CT): 

The Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a call from Wayne County 911 requesting investigative assistance involving a house fire and that the residence owner could be inside on Old Springs Road in Wayne County just after 01:00 a.m.

The initial investigation reveals Detective Matthew Parmley responded to the residence and spoke with the Wayne County Fire Department, who had located a victim believed to be 64-year-old Mary J. Fulton of Monticello, KY. Her son, 43-year-old Joseph K. Fulton, who resides with her, was missing from the scene and had reportedly made statements claiming he shot his mother and set the house on fire.

Mr. Fulton is considered armed and dangerous and has an active arrest warrant. If you have any information regarding his whereabouts or if you spot him, please contact KSP Post 11 at 606-878-6622, call 911, or text the KSP tip line at 67283, starting your message with “KSPTIP.”

Mr. Fulton may be driving a 2008 grey or tan Dodge Nitro, Kentucky license plate BHH801, which is registered to his mother, Mary Fulton.

Detective Matthew Parmley is continuing the investigation. He was assisted by Kentucky State Police Post 11 personnel, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the Monticello Police Department, Wayne County EMS, and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office. The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Post 11 London.

A murder investigation is underway in neighboring Wayne County after authorities say they found a woman dead inside a burning home this morning.

According to authorities, firefighters were called to a house fire at around 2:30 this morning on Old Mill Springs Road off Highway 90. When there, firefighters found a woman dead inside the home.

The woman was identified by the coroner’s office as 66-year-old Mary Fulton. The cause of death is still under investigation, but authorities are investigating the incident as a homicide.

Kentucky State Police is searching for a person of interest in the case, identified as 43-year-old Joseph K. Fulton of Monticello. He is the son of Mary Fulton.

Fulton is 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds with brown eyes and dark hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt and blue jeans and may be driving a 2008 grey or tan Dodge Nitro with a Kentucky plate BHH801.
