The Russell County Board of Education passed a resolution at last night’s meeting opposing “any legislation or policy that would allocate state dollars to fund schools outside the common system of public schools…”
While the resolution did not specifically mention Kentucky’s Amendment 2 that is on the ballot this fall, Superintendent Michael Ford addressed the amendment and read the language that will be on the ballot before the board voted on the resolution.
Ford also stated during the meeting the resolution “would be in opposition to Amendment 2.”
The resolution states in part that “using state funds to support schools outside the common system of public schools diverts essential resources from public schools…”
Ford addressed some of the claims about Amendment 2 at last night’s meeting.
Board of Education member Eric Selby made the motion to approve the resolution. He spoke to WJRS News about the amendment and his support for public schools.
The resolution was seconded by Gerald Murray and unanimously approved by the board.
