Fall and winter often means an increase in deer near roadways, which increases the risk of collisions involving deer.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, 20 deer-related collisions were reported last year in Russell County. That’s up from 14 in 2022 and 17 in 2021.
The transportation cabinet reported 10 in Adair County, 11 in Wayne, 13 in Casey, 17 in Cumberland County, 40 in Clinton, and 93 in Pulaski County, which is in the top 10 for the most in the state. In total, there were more than 3,200 deer collisions reported last year on Kentucky roadways, the highest number in the last five years.
The transportation cabinet is advising drivers to be extra cautious when traveling, especially if driving in the early morning or late evening hours when deer are most active.
