Russell County Hospital is leading the way among rural hospitals in Kentucky working with Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell on a new initiative called “Food is Medicine.”
Russell County Hospital, through the Kentucky Hospital Association, has been working with Shell’s office on a program that hospital CEO Scott Thompson said could be revolutionary.
Thompson said the hospital has begun conversations with local organizations like the extension office, Russell County Farm Bureau, and the Cattleman’s Association. Commissioner Shell and his team are expected to visit the hospital in December to iron out more details about the program.
