The Russell County Laker and Lady Laker Soccer teams claimed district titles over the weekend with dominant performances.
The Lady Lakers defeated the host Monroe County Lady Falcons in the district championship by a score of 9-0 in the first game of the day on Saturday.
Addison Coffey scored 4 goals for Russell County and added 2 assists, Adriana Thomas scored 3 goals, and Madison Weisbrodt scored 2 goals on penalty kicks, to go along with 3 assists. Liz Evans had 2 saves in the win.
In the boys game, the Lakers defeated Monroe County 8-0. Several players got into the scoring column for Russell County. Taven Foley led the Lakers with 2 goals. Xavi Medrano, Connor Davidson, Andre Perez, Cameron Brown, and Elijah Grayum each scored a goal. Will Pratt led the Lakers with a pair of assists, and Xavion Russell had 3 saves as goalkeeper.
The Lakers and Lady Lakers now wait for the draw for the 4th Region Tournament. The girls 4th Region Tournament will be played at Logan County and the boys will be played at Warren East. District tournaments across the region are expected to wrap up on Thursday.
