Kentucky State Police Post 15 and the Russell County Coroner’s Office are investigating after the body of a 71-year-old man was found in a field somewhere near his residence on North Highway 127.
The coroner’s office said the body of 71-year-old Walter “Emery” Thomas was discovered sometime around 8:15 Saturday night in a field off North 127 “some distance” from his home.
WJRS News is told the Russell County Sheriff’s Office was called out Saturday night to do a welfare check on Thomas after nobody had been able to reach him for a day or two. When deputies arrived at the property, they began to search around the field near the home where they encountered the body.
Russell County Search and Rescue was called in to assist with retrieving the body due to where it was located and conditions in the area.
At this time, a cause of death has not been determined. The body was transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
State Police Post 15 was called in and they are investigating the death, along with the coroner’s office. WJRS News reached out to a spokesperson for Post 15, but have not heard back at the time of this newscast.
We’ll provide more details as they are available.
