The county has been working on a project at Greasy Creek that would turn the area into a park with fishing piers and trails for about a year.
WJRS News spoke with Russell County Judge Executive Randy Marcum about where the project stands, and Marcum said the county has hit a stall in the project while dealing with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the project.
The issues include asking for more than $100,000 for studies on the land before granting the county a lease on the property, which is substantially more than what was initially discussed, according to Marcum.
Marcum has spoken in the past about how the county would like to turn the bridge at Greasy Creek into a handicap-accessible fishing pier and have the ability to launch kayaks from the area as well.
