A community prayer service was held at Russell Springs City Park yesterday evening.
The event’s organizer, Jessie Hopper, spoke to WJRS News about how the event came together. Hopper said the prayer service was in response to the incident that occurred at the park Monday evening when several youth league games were going on when reports of an active shooter sent parents and children scrambling for safety and a massive police presence converging on the park.
Authorities were able to determine that there was not an active threat at the park, and the situation was contained to the Bluebird Drive area, but Hopper said the community was shaken by the events at the park, as well as similar announcements of an active shooter that took place at the high school gym and other local sporting events.
Hopper spoke to WJRS News more about what her goal for the event was.
The event concluded with those in attendance walking through a line and expressing gratitude to the 30+ first responders in attendance.
