An apparent unsuccessful candidate for Commonwealth Attorney in last week’s Republican primary has filed a lawsuit in Russell Circuit Court alleging that election fraud and ballot tampering may have occurred during the voting and is requesting a recount.
Lee Whittenburg of Monticello filed the lawsuit Wednesday asking for a physical recount by hand of the ballots cast in Wayne and Russell Counties. Whittenburg lost the election to incumbent Matthew Leveridge last Tuesday by 1,000 votes, as Leveridge carried both counties in the voting. Whittenburg’s lawsuit names Leveridge and the State Board of Elections as defendants in the matter.
