Incumbent Matthew Leveridge picked up a big victory in yesterday’s primary election, defeating opponent Lee Whittenburg to retain his seat at Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 57th Judicial Circuit.
In Russell and Wayne counties, Leveridge finished with 2,490 votes compared to 1,490 for Whittenburg.
In Russell County, Leveridge won by a substantial margin, garnering 1,634 votes compared to 773 for Whittenburg.
Leveridge defeated Whittenburg in Wayne County by 139 votes.
In total, nearly 2,700 votes were cast in Russell County for a turnout of just over 19 percent.
